A Mobile Chicken Coop Designed for Fresh-Ground Rotation

The Porta Coop 6' × 8' Haven Mobile Chicken Coop is a covered, open-air poultry enclosure designed to move with your flock. Instead of keeping birds on the same patch of ground, its mobile design makes it easy to regularly move the enclosure to fresh areas while keeping your chickens, broilers, or turkeys contained.

Porta Coop's one-step moving system is designed so your birds walk along inside the enclosure during the move, eliminating the need to catch and relocate the flock separately. Flat-free wheels make moving easier, while an extra-tall door provides convenient access for feeding, tending your birds, and loading poultry when needed.

Built around a 1" × 1", 14-gauge steel tubing frame, the Haven features 14-gauge welded wire with 1" × 2" openings and a heavy-duty UV-resistant tarp that creates a covered area within the enclosure. Steel components are powder-coated after welding for added durability and protection. The result is a practical mobile chicken coop for backyard poultry keepers and homesteaders who want to incorporate fresh-ground rotation into their flock management.

Why Choose the 6' × 8' Haven?

  • One-step moving design — Your birds walk with the coop as you move it to fresh ground.
  • Flat-free wheels — Designed to eliminate worries about flat tires.
  • Two-position lift system — The handle provides two lift positions, allowing you to adjust how high the coop is raised for moving.
  • Heavy-duty steel construction — Built with a 1" × 1", 14-gauge steel tubing frame and 14-gauge welded wire with 1" × 2" openings.
  • Powder-coated finish — Steel components are powder-coated after welding for added durability and protection.
  • Heavy-duty UV-resistant tarp — Provides a covered area within the enclosure.
  • Extra-tall door — Provides easier access for feeding and loading birds.
  • Made in the USA — Porta Coop manufactures its Haven coops in the USA.

Choosing the Right Size

Porta Coop recommends the 6' × 8' Haven for:

Poultry Type Recommended Flock Size
Layers 6–15 birds
Broilers 10–30 birds
Turkeys 2–8 birds

Need less space? The 4' × 5' Haven is designed for smaller flocks of 4–6 layers or 8–12 broilers. Need more room? The 10' × 12' Haven accommodates larger flocks of 15–40 layers, 35–75 broilers, or 8–20 turkeys.

Choose Your Haven Setup

The 6' × 8' Haven is available as a coop on its own, with added roost space, or equipped for layers or broilers with Porta Coop's recommended package components.

6' × 8' Coop + Roost

  • 6' roost bar

6' × 8' Layer Package

6' × 8' Broiler Package

Keeping laying hens? Choose Coop + Roost to add Porta Coop's recommended roost space without purchasing the complete Layer Package. The Layer Package includes the recommended roost space along with the listed feeding, watering, and nesting equipment.

Care & Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps keep your Haven performing as intended. Porta Coop recommends checking and tightening loose fasteners every 3–6 months and inspecting the powder coating annually for scuffs, scratches, or damaged areas that may need touch-up.

The tarp can be repaired with a quality canvas patch kit if damaged, and Porta Coop recommends replacing the ball bungees as they lose elasticity over time. Replacement parts are available from Porta Coop.

Important: Porta Coop instructs owners to position the coop so that it does not face directly into the wind to help prevent damage.

Cold-Weather Use

The Haven can perform well in southern and milder winter climates, as well as climates that experience cold temperatures with minimal snowfall. The winter-use limitation for the Haven relates specifically to its roof: Haven roofs are not designed to withstand significant snow loads.

For customers in suitable climates who want additional cold-weather protection, Porta Coop offers a separate 6' × 8' Haven Winter Kit. The Winter Kit is sold separately and does not change the Haven roof's snow-load limitation.

For areas that regularly experience significant snowfall, consider a Porta Coop Heritage model instead.

FAQ

Where are Porta Coop chicken coops made?

Porta Coop chicken coops are made in the USA. Porta Coop manufactures its coops in Killbuck, Ohio, with a focus on practical mobile poultry housing designed for backyard flock owners, homesteaders, and small farms.

How does a Porta Coop mobile chicken coop move?

Porta Coop chicken coops use a one-step moving system designed to let your birds walk along inside the coop while you move it. The handle operates the wheel-lift system, raising the coop onto its flat-free wheels so it can be moved to fresh ground without first catching and relocating your flock.

Can my birds stay inside while I move the Porta Coop?

Yes. Porta Coop's moving system is designed so your birds can remain inside and walk along with the coop as you move it. This eliminates the need to catch and relocate your chickens, broilers, or turkeys separately each time you move the coop to fresh ground.

Do Porta Coop chicken coops require assembly?

Yes. Porta Coop chicken coops require assembly after delivery. The main coop panels are joined together on-site, followed by installation of components such as the handle, wheel system, tarp and other model-specific parts. Porta Coop provides detailed assembly instructions to guide you through the process.

What tools are needed to assemble a Porta Coop?

Porta Coop assembly requires common hand tools such as wrenches, a ratchet and sockets, and a tape measure. Tool requirements may vary by model, so check the assembly instructions provided with your specific Porta Coop for the complete tool list and sizes.

How do I care for and maintain my Porta Coop?

Regular maintenance helps keep your Porta Coop in good condition and operating properly. Check and tighten loose fasteners every 3–6 months, make sure the wheel brackets are snug while still allowing the wheels to move freely, and periodically inspect the powder coating for scuffs or scratches. Damaged areas can be lightly sanded and touched up with a high-quality black gloss paint.

Can I get replacement parts for my Porta Coop?

Yes. Replacement parts are available for Porta Coop chicken coops. Porta Coop recommends contacting them for replacement components as needed, helping you maintain and repair your coop over time.

How should I position my Porta Coop in windy conditions?

Position your Porta Coop so it does not face directly into the wind. Porta Coop recommends this placement to help prevent wind-related damage to the coop and its cover.

How will my Porta Coop be delivered?

Porta Coop orders are delivered by LTL freight with residential delivery and liftgate service. Your coop will be delivered curbside, and tracking information will be provided once your order ships.

What is the warranty on a Porta Coop?

Porta Coop warranties vary by coop model. The Haven is backed by a 3-Year Limited Warranty beginning on the date of the original retail purchase. The warranty applies to the original purchaser and covers replacement parts for qualifying manufacturing defects in materials or workmanship under normal use and service. Covered items include manufacturing defects, UV deterioration of warranted components under normal use, hardware failure, and wheel failure.

Warranty claims must be submitted through the authorized Porta Coop dealer where the coop was purchased. Four Leaf Coop Co customers can contact us for assistance with a warranty claim.

Can I return or cancel a Porta Coop order?

Porta Coop orders may be canceled as long as the order has not yet shipped.

Porta Coops may be returned within 30 days. Customers are responsible for return shipping, and a 15% restocking fee applies. If you need to cancel or return your Porta Coop, contact Four Leaf Coop Co for assistance before sending anything back.

How many birds can the Porta Coop Haven accommodate?

Recommended flock capacity depends on the Haven size and type of poultry you're raising.

For the 4' × 5' Haven, Porta Coop recommends:

  • Layers: 4–6 birds
  • Broilers: 8–12 birds
  • Turkeys: Not recommended

What's the difference between the 4' × 5', 6' × 8', and 10' × 12' Porta Coop Haven?

All three Haven sizes share the same core mobile, open-air design, with the primary differences being physical size and recommended flock capacity.

The 4' × 5' Haven is recommended for 4–6 layers or 8–12 broilers. The 6' × 8' Haven provides additional space for 6–15 layers, 10–30 broilers, or 2–8 turkeys. The 10' × 12' Haven is the largest option and is recommended for 15–40 layers, 35–75 broilers, or 8–20 turkeys.

For laying hens, the 6' × 8' and 10' × 12' Haven can also be equipped with Porta Coop's Layer Package, which adds appropriately sized feeding, watering, nesting, and roosting equipment for the recommended flock size.

Can I use the Porta Coop Haven during the winter?

Yes, depending on your climate. Porta Coop advises that Haven coops perform well in southern and milder winter climates and can also be used in cold temperatures where snowfall is minimal. The Haven roof is not designed to withstand significant snow loads. If you live in an area that regularly receives significant snowfall, consider a Porta Coop Heritage model instead.
